This year is Beagle Rescue of Southern Maryland’s 25th anniversary! We’re celebrating all year long with a special video series, an extra special Beagle Bash, and more.
Beagle Rescue of Southern Maryland sprang to life on April 9, 2001. Believe it or not, it was not the love of beagles, but the abundance of thrown away beagles that inspired the creation of the rescue.
As of April 2026, we’ve rescued over 2,600 dogs. Every one of them was picked up from the shelter, transported, vetted, photographed, posted, fostered, fed, and loved.
We’ve returned thousands of phone calls and thousands of e-mails. Most of the volunteers work full-time. Many fosters pay vet bills out of pocket because the rescue never seems to have enough money — and we don’t pay any staff members.
How we've saved beagles for the past 25 years
With 2,691 adoptions to date, we've made forever families whole and found homes for beagles, near beagles, and one or two dogs that never met a beagle.
Beagle Rescue of Southern Maryland is not a shelter, nor do we own or maintain a kennel — all of our beagles stay in the homes of volunteer fosters!
We've held more than 17 annual Beagle Bash events over the years. Save the date for our 25th anniversary bash on October 4, 2026.
Our community of dedicated and loving supporters have been generously donating to vet care and emergency funds for more than 2 decades.
